Default An overly complex guide to reputation

    In this guide:
In this guide we shall cover the intricacies of the Neofreaks reputation system. It covers everything you need to know about reputation.

    Reputation: What is it?

Every user on Neofreaks has a reputation. It starts at 0 and can be given or taken away by other members for good posts or bad posts. One can tell how a user has contributed to the forum by their reputation power, which is displayed along with the users' information to the left-hand side of their post.

How can I view my reputation?

You can view your reputation and reputation comments in your User Control Panel. If you have received any reputation it will look something like this:
    1. This shows your total amount of reputation points.
    2. This shows whether the reputation given was positive, negative or did not count.
      1. If the reputation was positive, the blip will be green.
      2. If negative, the blip will be red.
      3. If the reputation point did not count, the blip with be grey.
    3. This contains the title of the thread in which you were given the reputation.
    4. This is visible only to Level II members and higher. It shows who gave them the reputation
    5. This contains a comment left by the leaver of the reputation.
    What is reputation power?
Reputation power determines how much reputation you will give/take away when you give reputation to another member. It is calculated with the following factors (subject to change at any time, correct at the time of posting):
    • For every 180 days registered, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
    • For every 500 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
    • For every 75 reputation points, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
For a reputation hit to count, you must have at least 50 posts and have at least 1 reputation point. Administrators all have a reputation power of 5.

What's this about spreading reputation around?
After giving a user reputation, you must give 10 other users reputation. You may give reputation 20 times per day. Administrators are exempt from this limit.

Do I lose reputation when I give it?
No, you keep your reputation points and give reputation points to the value of your reputation power to the user to whom you are giving the reputation points

    How do I give reputation?
You may give reputation to a user for a post by clicking on the highlighted button in the image below for the appropriate post. The image also shows how reputaion power is displayed.

You are then confronted with something similar to the following window.

From here you may give positive reputation (by approving) or negative reputation (by disapproving). You must enter a comment or you will get the following error message:

By clicking the scales image next to the aforementioned posts, you are able to see how much reputation you have gained from that post.

When hovering over the blips, a message appears, what's this?
